Downer Sewer Upgrade Stages 1-3

Indesco was engaged to undertake the design of three stages of 300-375mm diameter sewer upgrades through Bradfield Street, Melba Street, and Swinden Street in Downer ACT. Construction of Stage 1 was completed in 2017 with construction supervision also undertaken by Indesco. Stages 2 and 3 have been designed and are to be constructed as future projects.

A key design challenge was the requirement to construct the sewers at depths in excess of 4m in close proximity to residential dwellings, existing services, and heritage trees, while keeping the existing sewers in operation during the works. As such the design was required to incorporate the use of trenchless installation methods (boring and pipe bursting) and temporary pumping strategies.
