description

The Moncrieff Access Tracks and Bridge project was constructed on behalf of the Suburban Land Agency (SLA) as the final stage of the Moncrieff Residential Estate. The scope of works included the provision of a series of connected trails/off-road paths for pedestrians, cyclists and emergency services. This included design and construction of a bridge over Ginninderra Creek, between Moncrieff and the Amaroo schools and playing fields.

The maintenance tracks are located along the steep open woodland to the south of Moncrieff, with existing grades in excess of 30%. The landscape value of the area is high, with many exceptional and high quality mature trees, woodland and grasslands which are highly visible from surrounding suburbs due to the steep incline and high elevation. Landscape works included planting of trees and the construction of a number of gabion basket retaining walls and grassing including the stabilisation of steep embankments.

The bridge structure was a cost effective simple steel Beam Bridge Design. At a length of 55m, it consisted of 5 spans and two architectural free standing feature columns rising 9 metres into the air. It was constructed using four 14 metre modular steel segments. This allowed for not only simple fabrication and transportation, but satisfied the temporary loading conditions for instillation. This meant no additional temporary supports were required.
