Arawang School Indigenous Gardens Opening

On 2nd September, Paul Brookbanks attended the opening of the Arawang School Indigenous Gardens in Waramanga, ACT. Paul was joined at the ceremony by Minister for Education Yvette Berry, and School Principal Jennifer Page to officially open the garden.

Created by Indesco’s landscape team, the gardens designs reference Ngunnawal stories in collaboration with Aboriginal artist Kristie Peters from Yarrudhamarra Creations. The local geography of the Brindabellas and Murrumbidgee River is also suggested, and the landscape includes native edible species of plants available for the school students and staff.

The gardens focus on forming relationships with indigenous cultures, learning from nature and outdoor classrooms and a spirit of knowledge exchange.
